ISLHD Allied Health staffing cuts in Subacute Mental Health Service
-
Published October 23, 2024
Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District has advised the HSU of its proposal to axe 5 FTE from Allied Health Assistants at Shoalhaven Subacute Mental Health Unit, and to create an Allied Health Educator position.
The District is justifying the FTE cuts by claiming there is an ‘excess’ compared to the ‘need’ for Allied Health Assistants to work within scope of practice.
The proposed changes to Allied Health Assistants are:
- Reduce AHA establishment from 10.24 to 6.12 FTE with ISLHD MHS maintaining current establishment of 6.79 FTE pending natural attrition.
- Change shift patterns from 12-hour shifts to 8-hour shifts.
- No AHA rostered overnight.
- AHA shifts from 0700 – 1530 and 1330 – 2200, 7 days per week.
- Retain identified Aboriginal Torres Strait Island AHA position and include in 7-day roster.
