Voting at Schedule 3 Hospitals
-
Published July 18, 2023
Members at Schedule 3 hospitals have received a different survey to answer than members who work at public hospitals.
Members in public hospitals received 3 questions as follows:
- The Government has offered to stop deducting an additional 10% of your salary packaging benefits. This means you would receive 60% of your salary packaging benefits. Which applies to you?
- Accept the salary packaging tax benefits being paid to health workers.
- Continue a campaign of industrial action to get 100% salary packaging tax benefits.
- The Government has made an offer with two options (4% vs $3,500), which of the following applies to you?
- I wish to accept one of the Government pay offers.
- I wish to continue industrial action to campaign for a bigger pay rise.
- If the majority of Union members wish to accept an offer – which is your preferred?
- A $3502 increase to all base rates in HSU Awards.
- A 4% increase to all base rates in HSU Awards.
Members working at schedule 3 hospitals, e.g., Calvary Mater or St Vincent’s, only received question 3 and not the questions relating to industrial action.
Why is this?
Members at Schedule 3 hospitals are employed under the federal industrial relations system, not the state industrial relations system. Workers covered by the federal industrial relations system do not have the right to take protected industrial action in the current circumstances. For more information about why this is the case, see here.
This is unfortunate. We know and acknowledge all your hard work in the campaign to get the pay offer from 3.5% to where it is now, and we also understand you have views on the current offer. However, we could not put a question to you which asked you to take industrial action which would be unlawful.
We are at a stage where the Government has not moved on requests for any more. That means only industrial action will enable us to obtain more if the vote is rejected.
