Workers across pathology understand just how important your role is in ensuring the privacy of patient records.

Australian Clinical Labs (ACL) don’t seem to understand or respect that. Or perhaps they do – but company profits are more important to them.

In a disgraceful move, ACL has decided to offshore key customer service jobs to Malaysia.

Customer service workers around Australia have performed highly sensitive work for ACL for decades. Now, almost all of this work has been secretly transferred to Malaysia. Patients, workers and the community are outraged that ACL has offshored these critical jobs without any thought for the service they provide. 

The work these customer service workers do is incredibly confidential. They handle very sensitive medical records. How is this information being kept secure? Are they following the same standards expected in Australia?

These are jobs funded by Medicare. Our tax dollars must fund jobs in Australia. More importantly, it is irresponsible to offshore such sensitive work to reduce costs. Staff and patients must come before profits!

This is the thin end of the wedge. If ACL are allowed to do this without consequences, other private pathology companies will be emboldened to consider similar actions that penalise workers in Australia.
