Whiddon Carers Roster Change: Know your rights!
-
Published February 20, 2023
HSU members have advised that management at Whiddon Easton Park are attempting to change rosters for staff working in the care stream. Management had flagged roster changes last year, but this proposal was put on hold following our last meeting with Whiddon in November 2022.
The proposed changes may affect your shift times, your shift patterns, and your contracted hours.
Several family members of residents at Whiddon Easton Park have also raised concerns about the proposed changes. They say that staff levels are already very restricted and are concerned that a further reduction in hours will affect in quality of care for residents.
HSU members working at Whiddon have been supported by some of the families and the local community against management’s intention to cut workers’ hours. Whiddon must seriously consider all concerns raised by staff, residents, family members, and the community.
It’s important that you know your rights during this consultation period. Whiddon must consult with all affected staff members. That means:
- Whiddon must provide in writing all relevant information about the change.
- Whiddon must invite you to give your views about the proposed change.
- Whiddon must consider any views about the impact of the change.
HSU members have the right to be represented by the union. If your colleagues are not yet HSU members, encourage them to join the union so that they are represented.
Do not sign anything you are not happy with. All HSU members are encouraged to seek advice before signing or agreeing to any changes.
If you have any questions or issues, you can reach out to your organiser Anita Bhattarai Pangeni on 0455 995 966 or by email [E-Mail not displayed].
