The HSU has been in talks with management at Auburn and Westmead Hospitals about dividing the CSSD departments into two groups. Management initially provided a timeline of 12 weeks back in July 2022 – it is now January 2023, and we have seen little movement.

To gather staff preferences, a paper survey was conducted back in July. However, significant time has elapsed since then, and members' preference changes need to be taken into account.

The survey will run until Friday 3 February. The results will be sent to hospital management at both sites with a request that staff be rostered based on their preferences until the division is finalised.

Your HSU Organiser will also be on site in coming weeks to discuss workload issues caused by the closure of DSSU and the demands being made of members to perform tasks outside their job descriptions. CSSD technicians should be focused on sterilising equipment for surgery, not running around the campus doing the work of other HSU members.
