Last month the amazing members at Rutherford decided enough was enough when it came to the Service not valuing their community and the level of care they deserved. They attempted to introduce an alternative roster that would maintain their local coverage instead of being used as a pseudo relief resource.

Rather than reflect on the alternate model introduced, NSWA took the extreme option of standing our members down without pay. There is something to be said for community spirit and loyalty in our regional towns. The Rutherford Paramedics not only stood strong with the threat of their pay being taken away, but they also responded unpaid to life threatening emergencies. To thank them, a community fund raised the pay they missed out on in less than 24 hours.

To thank the community and to further explain why they are taking action, ADHSU Paramedics from Rutherford and surrounds will be holding a community information day within a month.

ADHSU delegates encourage all members to reach out if you feel your community is also being depleted of the paramedic resources they need. Our local politicians, sporting clubs, community groups and neighbours deserve to know what the reality is when they need an ambulance.

At our stop work following Rutherford's action, members showed a desire to keep the pressure on the Service to maintain coverage with the following action:

SHIFT MOVEMENTS (Waterfall action)

  • Members will only participate in shift movements in line with the dual crewing policy. That is, they will only move to a station to team up with a single if they are able to be teamed up within an hour of the commencement of shift time for the vacant shift.
  • If multiple movements are required, the Waterfall action will come into effect with each movement only to occur once the first has been completed.
  • Any singles tasked to a case while waiting for a partner to arrive will press respond and remain in their vehicle in the station driveway until coord can assure them that their backup is within 10 minutes of arriving and will not be called off.

Please vote here to endorse this action and provide comments on further action you would like to take until all taxpayer funded rosters are maintained.

In the meantime, start scanning the QR code on the posters that are going up on station to report when your station's Taxpayer Funded Rosters are not being maintained. This includes if specialists are not being replaced with specialists or if singles are waiting greater than an hour to be teamed up.

Last year’s pay campaign showed the power ADHSU members have when we stand together. That fight was with the NSW Government, and members won. Now we turn our attention to NSW Ambulance to fight for respect, safety and fair conditions for every member, every shift.
