Update: Calvary Public Hospital Bruce acquisition
-
Published June 6, 2023
The laws that enable the ACT Government takeover of Calvary Public Hospital Bruce were passed last week.
The ACT Government has now notified the HSU that Calvary has taken legal action to stop the acquisition. ACT Health has stated they will not seek staff information from Calvary or come on site until after the full hearing in the Supreme Court, tomorrow 7 June 2023.
We are following this legal action carefully and will keep members up to date at all times.
Our number one priority is that you are paid your wages and are not left behind because of a political legal battle. Unless notified otherwise the takeover will happen on July 3 and at that date Canberra Health Services (CHS) will be responsible for your pay.
Members are encouraged to fill out the registration form that CHS has provided to ensure they are not affected by any dispute between Calvary and CHS about employees’ information.
Minister Stephen-Smith has publicly committed that ‘there are no planned changes to services and team structures’ and staff ‘will be able to continue doing the same job, in the same team, with the same manager on the same pay and conditions.’ Union members are seeking that this commitment is included in our enterprise agreement.
If anything has been made clear through this process, it’s that both CHS and Calvary are not certain about what will happen in the next few weeks. It’s more important than ever to be a union member to make sure you have your voice heard. New members can join at www.hsu.asn.au/join or call 1300 478 679.
