UNION WIN! Manning Base Hospital café here to stay!

Dear Member,

We met about it, we’ve petitioned for it, we’ve rallied for it, we’ve fought for it.

And now we’ve won it!

Last month NSW Health's corporate arm, HealthShare, made the announcement it was going to close the Stitches Cafe without any public consultation and despite the vital role the cafe plays in feeding workers.

HSU members had one response: “Hands off our café!”, with dozens rallying out Manning Base hospital. More than 4000 people also signed a petition, calling for a halt to the plans.

HSU members know the cafe area provides a retreat and place to relax and refuel - not just for hospital workers, but for the wider community.

Now, NSW Health Minister Ryan Park has written to the HSU to announce the Stitches retail outlet will remain open.

This has only come about because of the actions HSU members took on the ground – attending union meeting, growing the union on-site, collecting signatures and turning up to rallies.

This reversal is proof union members who stand together and fight together, win together!

Congratulations to every member who was part of the fight who can now claim this victory.
