Tomorrow’s pay increase is only the start

Cast your mind back to a year ago today. If ADHSU paramedics hadn't prevailed in our fight for professional pay, January 31 was going to be the day that thousands of paramedics' registration lapsed.

As ADHSU paramedics receive their next pay increase tomorrow, on January 1, it is a good time to remember that employers or governments don’t simply give pay rises. We fight for them. No significant pay rise has come without a fight, and the one members put up last year was no small task. Paramedics should be proud of their efforts!

However, tomorrow’s pay increase is not even close to what paramedics deserve as recognised professionals. And, importantly, control centre officers and superintendents are still fighting for the pay increases they deserve. Tomorrow is just the start.

As campaigns ramp up to secure Taxpayer Funded Rosters and for fair pay for CCOs and superintendents, members should keep in mind what their strength can achieve. It will certainly be necessary to win these fights too.

A very Happy New Year to all ADHSU members. Let's get ready to do what we do best in 2025: Fight.
