NSLHD is in the process of making catastrophic cuts to staffing across Allied Health, Administration and support roles within the District.
NSLHD are refusing to answer questions or acknowledge their plans to put their budget ahead of health workers and the community.
HSU members are standing together to stop these cuts.
On October 1, Allied Health and Admin members at RNSH, HKH and MVH held stop-work meetings and endorsed the commencement of industrial action if NSLHD did not provide answers and stop the cuts by October 15. You can view the resolution in the previous newsletter here.
With less than 24 hours until that deadline, this is the only information NSLHD has provided:
- They want to save $55 million which will be sourced heavily from cutting employment.
- They are prioritising an “affordable staffing model” instead of a safe staffing model.
- They are terminating expiring temporary contracts without any risk assessments.
- They will not provide vacancy figures for Allied Health because, in their words, vacancy figures are “meaningless”.
- Department budget cut targets will be finalised by the end of October.
- In the first tranche of cuts announced this week they are proposing to remove 16 FTE across the LHD.
HSU members are asking for what is fair: pause the cuts, consult with members, and put staff and patient safety first.
NSLHD has refused these basic requests. So, HSU members are taking action by implementing the resolution to commence industrial action endorsed on 1 October.
HSU member representatives have been meeting to develop a list of industrial actions across the district and in some professions / departments. These must be voted on by HSU members before they can be implemented.
The survey will close at 3pm on Tuesday 15 October. If HSU members endorse the actions listed, then they will commence on Thursday 17 October.
If the actions are endorsed, you will receive a further email tomorrow with specific details of commencing time and how to implement the actions.
