Not a great couple of weeks for Southern Cross Care

This week, workers across too many Southern Cross Care facilities were told that their work will be outsourced to Catering Industries Pty Ltd (see notification at this link), following in the footsteps of other SCC facilities that had already gone down this path. This decision comes just one week after SCC announced it was closing its Harden facility.
Meetings with impacted employees are taking place this week and members are encouraged to attend – but don’t sign anything.
You have the right to proper consultation, including the right to discuss this change with your union. The HSU has written to SCC to clarify the timeframes and to ensure your rights are respected.
I am deeply disappointed that SCC has gone down this path. Good quality food is as much about care as it is about nutrition and I believe is a “core activity” too.
Importantly, Catering Industries will look to transfer employees which means length of service, leave entitlements and contracted hours remain the same. So it is now a matter of ensuring each impacted member gets the advice and support you need.
HSU Organisers will try to attend each of the facilities over the next week, but in the meantime if you need to speak with someone call our Member Services Division on 1300 478 679 or email [E-Mail not displayed].
And if you know someone who isn’t an HSU member, let them know what’s going on and that only HSU members will get advice and support. New members can join by calling 1300 478 679 or visiting www.hsu.asn.au/join.
