NBMLHD: Proposed transfer of CSSD services, Lithgow & Katoomba to Nepean
-
Published May 22, 2024
The HSU has received correspondence from Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District about a decision to decommission Central Sterilisation Services Departments at Lithgow and Blue Mountains Hospitals and transfer services to Nepean Hospital.
NBMLHD says this decision is due to the implementation of a new health standard which they need to comply with in order to continue to conduct surgery. They say it is not feasible to upgrade Lithgow and Blue Mountains facilities to comply with the new standard.
The transfer of CSSD services to Nepean is set to commence in September 2024, with a trial period to start in August 2024. Endoscopy reprocessing will remain at each location and is unaffected.
NBMLHD has stated that the transition requires “minimal changes”. They have also said that no employee will be affected by the proposed changes because cleaning, packing and receiving duties for current CSSD staff will remain at each location.
