MSHF Marrickville: Know your rights on rosters and leave!
-
Published September 5, 2024
Dear Member,
HSU members at Maronite Sisters of the Holy Family Marrickville have recently raised concerns around several workplace issues, including rostering and leave requests.
Members met on 3 September to discuss the issues and directed their HSU organiser to write to management seeking clarity around these matters.
While you’re waiting for a response, it’s vital you know your rights at work:
- According to your enterprise agreement, a roster should be published two weeks prior to the commencing date of the first working period.
- In accordance with your enterprise agreement, when your employer proposes any changes to your regular roster, they must consult with you AND your representative (your union).
- Taking personal leave is an entitlement in the Fair Work Act that you can access when you are not fit for work.
- You shall not be contacted by your employer whilst on personal leave.
- You do not have to find a replacement to backfill your shift. That is your employer’s job.
- You shouldn’t be questioned about the specifics of your health condition that caused you to take personal leave by your employer.
- Your mental health and wellbeing at work is as important as your physical safety. No one should suffer at work.
If you have any concerns, contact your HSU representative Hyojung Kim on [E-Mail not displayed].
Encourage your workmates to join the HSU. Together you have strength in your workplace. New members can join online at www.hsu.asn.au/join or call 1300 478 679.
