MLHD Mental Health Drug and Alcohol – Investigation into alleged misconduct

Over the past six months, the HSU has been undertaking an investigation into MLHD Mental Health Drug and Alcohol.

We discovered serious concerns raised against some management, including racism, risking workers’ safety, directing workers to commit unlawful acts, regular interference in selection panels, and misusing the performance management and code of conduct procedures to dismiss workers based on personal preference.

This report was handed to Health Minister Ryan Park on 9 December 2024.

HSU members have done great work and have prevailed upon MLHD to appoint independent investigator Janice McLeay.

All HSU members are encouraged to speak to Ms McLeay if they have seen any of the behaviour mentioned above.

Members who have already met Ms McLeay speak of her positively. The HSU will also ask the minister’s office to have oversight of this process, so her report is appropriately addressed.

HSU members are standing up together and showing change is possible and that our voices can be heard.

Know someone who isn’t an HSU member and is affected? Encourage them to join our Union today and have a say. We are always stronger when we stand together.
