Macquarie University Hospital Draft Enterprise Agreement

Published February 23, 2021
The HSU has been negotiating a new Enterprise Agreement with MUH for the past 12 months. This Enterprise Agreement will outline your conditions of employment, as well as the pay and pay increases to which you will be entitled over the life of the Agreement.
Employees of MUH will now be given the opportunity to vote on the Draft Agreement.
If the majority of employees vote YES, the Agreement will be sent to the Fair Work Commission for formal approval, whereas in the event of a NO vote, the HSU will continue bargaining with MUH and fight for an improved agreement.
The HSU has fought for and achieved some gains during these negotiations. These include improved shift penalties, increased certainty for part time employees, an increase in the minimum engagement of casual employees to three hours, and improvements to on-call allowances. On the other hand, the Agreement provides for pay increases which are below the industry standard:
- An increase of 0.75% on the first full pay period on or after 1 January 2021;
- An increase of 0.75% on the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2021;
- An increase of 1.75% on the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2022.
The HSU also has the following concerns about the Draft Enterprise Agreement:
- Part time employees will not receive their Award entitlement to overtime for hours worked in excess of their rostered hours;
- The Agreement will allow MUH to stand employees down without pay in a broad range of circumstances; and
- The Agreement will not provide a higher duties allowance for all time worked in a higher classification.
MUH has also refused to resolve a number of other concerns the HSU has raised about employment conditions in this agreement. If this agreement is approved, it will apply until at least 2022. Members are encouraged to read the agreement carefully and take these concerns seriously when they cast a vote.
