Published June 3, 2022
Earlier this week, HSU met with the Liverpool Hospital Executive for an update on the Liverpool Hospital precinct redevelopment.
Below is summary of the key points from this briefing:
- The total cost of the project is $790 million, with $50 million dedicated to the new multistorey car park.
- Stage 1 of the project is currently being built and expected to open 2023/24 pending delays due to weather.
- Stage 2 will be completed in 2026. Once the precinct is completed, the Hospital will increase from 723 to 900 beds.
- Wards will be made up of 70% single rooms and 30% double rooms.
- Workforce planning and staff increases for Stage 1 have not been determined, but it’s expected a draft plan will be presented the Liverpool Hospital Executive within the next 2-4 weeks. Your Union has secured a commitment to consult with HSU members on this plan, but no timeframe has been provided.
- Our request to be provided with a copy of the plans was rejected.
Over the next few weeks, your organiser will be onsite visiting departments and speaking with staff about the redevelopment. A series of members meetings will be held and you are encouraged to attend – details will be sent once confirmed.
Now is the time to unite and stand up to ensure your concerns are heard, so there are sufficient staffing increases to meet increased demand and workloads when Stage 1 opens in approximately 18 months’ time.
