After a long dispute, HSU members at Ballina Hospital have successfully reached an agreement with NNSWLHD management to engage in genuine consultation around proposed changes in the Emergency Department Short Stay Unit (EDSSU).

Management initially sought to introduce the changes without consulting HSU members. But when members put the matter into dispute and held the line, management were eventually forced to come to the table. This demonstrates the strength of standing together at work.

HSU members deserve a say in proposed changes that could have a significant effect on workloads and wellbeing. This dispute was originally lodged in December 2021 – because of the strength and purpose of HSU members, a satisfactory resolution has finally been reached.
