HSU members at Inala stand up for safety!

Dear Members,

After more than 90 HSU members at Inala signed a petition highlighting safety risks around the vinyl gloves being used by workers, the company will be issued an Improvement Notice by SafeWork NSW ordering it to consult with workers.

The members’ petition was delivered to Inala management last week, following a visit from SafeWork NSW that confirmed the gloves were not up to task.

SafeWork’s inspector reported vinyl gloves expose workers to health and safety risks due to contact with bodily substances entering the glove’s cuff and SafeWork will now be issuing an Improvement Notice to Inala to address safety and consultation concerns.

Inala has now confirmed to SafeWork that a risk assessment was not completed to identify the best control measure and workers were not consulted about PPE before it was implemented in the workplace.

Inala will be expected to inform and consult with all workers regarding the notice and address the WHS risk in the coming days.

This only occurred because HSU members at Inala came together, signed the petition and demanding management stop putting them at risk!

SafeWork’s inspector has also suggested Inala put an anonymous survey out to workers around the suitability of vinyl gloves. If this does occur, it’s vital HSU members have their say and provide management with honest feedback.
