The NSW Ambulance 2023 MCPD program, commencing in January, will introduce new skills and scope of practice that will place additional responsibility and accountability on paramedics.
Over the past year, ADHSU delegates have worked with the Ministry of Health in a Paramedicine Taskforce developing strategies to improve health outcomes for NSW communities, engaging positively to promote Paramedic Professional Recognition.
We’ve remained in touch with the Premier’s office over the Christmas/New Year period. We sent a formal proposal in December about the next steps required to gain Professional Recognition. Last week they advised us they are working on a reply to the ADHSU proposal and intend to respond to us shortly as the administrative support staff have returned to the office this week.
ADHSU delegates have offered the view that any new scope of practice without proper recognition and remuneration is an extra claim on the workforce by the Ministry of Health. Members are willing to participate in any advancement that will benefit the community but feel that paramedics should defer this new training until a formal response has been received from the Premier.
