Calling all leisure and lifestyle officers: Important meeting on Thursday

Dear Member,

Leisure and lifestyle officers should come to an important meeting – Thursday, 22 August at 6pm. Zoom link: https://hsu-asn-au.zoom.us/j/84344099013

Over recent months, HSU members have reported a concerning trend across parts of the aged care sector, with several providers reducing the number of leisure and lifestyle officer roles and replacing them with personal care workers.

Leisure and lifestyle officers – also called recreational activities officers – play a vital role in delivering quality care. They help residents to thrive, by creating a rich environment where residents’ social, physical, and emotional needs can be met.

However, as aged care providers increasingly focus on meeting their mandated person care minutes (as delivered by Personal Care Workers), the important role that leisure and lifestyle officers play appears to be becoming a secondary consideration for some providers.

We want to hear from you! All HSU Leisure and Lifestyle Officers are encouraged to attend a special HSU meeting  Thursday, August 22 at 6pm, to discuss this important issue. We want to hear about the experience at your facility, and collectively discuss how we could address this emerging trend.
