The Federal Government has just informed the Fair Work Commission that it proposes to phase in aged care pay rises over two years – Click here to send the Prime Minister a message that this isn’t good enough!
Following the Fair Work Commission decision in November, HSU members have called for the full 15% pay increase to be passed on immediately and for all aged care workers to receive a significant pay rise.
Today the federal government filed their response to the decision, asking for aged care pay rises to be staggered, with an increase of 10% in July 2023 and a further increase of 5% in July 2024. The full government submission is available here.
This is completely unacceptable. All aged care workers deserve a significant pay rise and we need it now.
The aged care sector is in crisis. We cannot wait until 2024 for the federal government to come to the table and deliver a pay rise.
The Prime Minister needs to remember his promise before the election, that a Labor Government would “support the Fair Work Commission moving quickly to meaningfully lift the wages of aged care workers”.
