Blacktown Hospital – WH&S Staff Dining Room Level 3 B Block

HSU was made aware by members of the condition of Staff Dinning Area Level 3 B Block.

After further investigation, HSU determined that the Dining Area had:

  • Microwaves not working
  • PowerPoints not working
  • Unclean sandwich maker
  • Cupboards and draws broken
  • Mould under sink and in cupboards & walls & PowerPoints
  • Unclean fridge
  • Computer terminals are not working however members have said that they cannot turn them on
  • Hole in the lino which is a trip hazard

HSU wrote to management to address these concerns immediately. Management actioned the below points:

  • Maintenance to review cabinetry
  • Sandwich press to be replaced
  • Maintenance to check all microwaves. Ensure there are 2 x operational microwaves available within dining room
  • Maintenance to review replace / repair floor vinyl
  • All power points have been reset and are operational
  • General Services Supervisors to arrange for staff for cleaning of fridge and cupboards on 5th October 2022 (allowing time for staff to remove personal items from fridge)

Actions to be completed:

  • Review PCs to ensure operational and working- this will be checked this afternoon when less staff in room and if nonoperational replaced
  • Sign to be placed on fridge to advise of cleaning on 5th October 2022 and for staff to remove all personal items/meals by 4th October 2022- will be completed this afternoon
  • Schedule for cleaning of interior of fridge to be developed and placed on fridge to inform staff of when it will be cleaned- Will be posted on fridge after it is cleaned on 5th October.
