Workloads and getting organised at Autumn Lodge Armidale

Published February 16, 2021
Members have recently reported excessive workloads and ongoing pressure from management to work extra shifts. This included double shifts and being recalled from leave.
An employer can ask staff for additional hours if it the request is reasonable, but workers can say no to unreasonable additional hours. It is unacceptable for staff to feel they are working to the point of exhaustion.
Members are asked to now complete the HSU Excessive Workload Diary to gather information about unreasonable workloads. This can then be used to make positive changes.
The best protection members have against poor conditions, excessive workloads, and feelings of powerlessness is an organised workplace. And an essential element of an organised workplace is to have members who will volunteer to be workplace representatives and to lead the way for others.
Workplace leaders will have access to training and support from the HSU. If you would like to be part of this leadership group for Autumn Lodge Aged Care or would like to nominate someone, please contact your organiser Karen Wiles on 0408 164 519 or [E-Mail not displayed]. Karen will be back on site in a couple of weeks for face-to-face discussions.
Finally, thank you for the incredible work you and your colleagues have been doing over the last 12 months in keeping the residents of Autumn Lodge safe. You deserve a pay rise and this year, together, HSU members are fighting for your work to be properly valued. For more information go to our We’re Worth It campaign page.
