Westmead CASB Update: Delay needed to ensure a safe transition
-
Published February 1, 2021
There are now less than 3 weeks until the opening of the new Emergency Department and the beginning of the transition of services to the Central Acute Services Building (CASB). Time is rapidly running out to ensure there are adequate and safe staffing levels in place.
While many of you are looking forward to working in the new state-of-the-art facility, most of the 200+ FTE additional staff – which the Government have agreed to fund as part of the project – are yet to materialise.
Many of these new positions are stuck in the never-ending red tape of recruitment and do not yet have start dates or letters of offer to the successful applicants.
Of course, any recruitment process is more than just a matter of hiring someone to physically do a job. There is also the important issue of training and orientation for new staff.
With this in mind, on Friday the HSU wrote to the General Manager of Westmead Hospital requesting a 4-week postponement to allow for all recruitment processes to be completed and all new staff to begin their training and orientation. You can view our letter at this link.
If you or your colleagues have any questions or concerns about the opening of the CASB, please contact your Organiser via [E-Mail not displayed] or 0425 181 361 as soon as possible, so that we can arrive at a resolution prior to the opening.
With so many changes happening in such a short period of time, now is the time to make sure you’re protected by joining the Union. Tell your colleagues to get on board at www.hsu.asn.au/join or call 1300 478 679.
