Update - Technical Officer and Hospital Scientist Award Negotiations

An important meeting about reforming the Technical Officer and Hospital Scientist Awards occurred between the Ministry of Health, NSW Health Pathology and the HSU today. This was the first substantive meeting between the parties.
The key points from the meeting were:
- Two union delegates and three HSU officials attended the meeting to strongly advocate for the needs of workers.
- The HSU presented member developed ideas informed by your feedback and the industrial committees.
- The HSU is pleased by the open discussion and engagement on key points that are concerns of HSU members.
- The parties will continue to work toward improving conditions for both Technical Officers and Hospital Scientists.
- We’re at the early stages of this important reform and there is a lot of work to do and a long way to go.
The next steps will be:
- HSU members, led by the Hospital Scientist Industrial Committee and Technical Officer Industrial Committee, will continue to develop proposed changes to the awards.
- HSU members and officials will meet with NSWHP and the Ministry of Health on 20 June 2023 to further work on the awards.
- Members will be surveyed and/or attend statewide member meetings to approve any proposals.
- Members will be invited to upcoming statewide meetings to hear updates on progress and provide feedback.
If you want to get more involved, join the Hospital Scientist Industrial Committee or Technical Officer Industrial Committee today (you can do so by simply emailing [E-Mail not displayed]). The committees are made up of members and meet at least once per month to work on important matters facing the sector. Make sure to also attend future statewide meetings and keep talking about this important work with your colleagues.
