HSU members’ strength and dedication has paid off, with the recognition of the Calvary Public Hospital Bruce Medical Imaging service in the latest ACT Budget.
Members and representatives met with the ACT Minister of Health Rachel Stephen-Smith via WebEx on 20 July this year to discuss ongoing concerns around workloads and underfunding in the Medical Imaging Department at Calvary Public Hospital Bruce. Members presented a detailed brief to Minister Stephen-Smith requesting Budget funding allocation for 24/7 staffing.
Following strong lobbying and evidence to support our request, the Budget Statement 2021/2022 has been issued announcing the expansion of Medical Imaging to a 24/7 service at Calvary Public Hospital Bruce to meet additional Emergency Department demand. This shows the importance of standing together as Union members to call for improvements at work.
This is a good day for HSU members, but we can’t lose sight of the end goal. The HSU continues to campaign for adequate staffing levels and safe workloads for all members – regardless of the circumstances.
If you know someone who hasn’t yet joined the HSU, tell them about this win and what we can achieve together. New members can join at www.hsu.asn.au/join or call 1300 478 679.
