Union win! HSU members at Anglican Care win pay increase and back pay!

Published December 11, 2023
Dear Member,
HSU members at several Anglican Care sites recently raised concerns about their classification and pay rate, identifying that were not being paid the correct hourly rate for their role.
Members requested that Anglican Care audit the pay rates and classification levels across the workforce and commit to back pay any staff members who were underpaid.
Following an investigation, Anglican Care management agreed that there has been an underpayment and have undertaken to resolve it.
The underpayment mainly affects ‘non-direct care’ roles, which did not receive the 15 per cent pay increase as part of the Fair Work Commission’s interim decision in the HSU’s Aged Care Work Value Case.
Anglican Care have reported the following to the HSU:
- 280 current employees (as well as 36 exited employees) will receive a back payment.
- 5 employees who received the Work Value Case increase were paid 50 cents below the Enterprise Agreement rate. These employees will receive a backpay for variance in hourly rate.
- 1 Lifestyle and Wellbeing employee who was eligible to receive the Work Value Case increase did not. That employee will also receive backpay.
- Back payments will be made to 1 July 2023, as all employees were being paid at or above the Award rate of pay prior to 1 July 2023.
- The back payments range between $0.99 - $1847.65, with the average payment being $179.88.
- Pay rate adjustments and back pay will be made for the pay period ending 10 December 2023 which will be received by employees on 12 December 2023.
Thanks to HSU members who stood up and raised these concerns, this matter has been resolved quickly and positively – congratulations on getting active and taking a stand!
