Dear Member,
HSU members at IRT have secured a major win for union members who were being paid the wrong rates!
Earlier this year, some workers at IRT raised concerns around their classification and pay rate, pointing out they were not being paid the increased rate that had been secured by the HSU’s historic Work Value Case.
After the HSU contacted IRT, the company conducted an audit and found it had failed to properly classify some workers and was paying them the wrong rate.
The review found some Aged Care Employee Level 2 employees, with additional relevant qualifications of a Certificate III or higher, required a change in role classification and an associated increase in pay.
Thanks to HSU members speaking out, affected workers will now be classified as Level 3 from the pay period commencing Monday 29 April 2024, and their hourly rate will increase to $31.32!
Further, these workers will also be back paid from 10 July 2023 (or from when they were issued their qualification, if gained) to the pat period ending 28 April 2024.
Management has informed the HSU the back payment will be paid to workers in their upcoming pay cycle to be processed on 31 May 2024.
If you currently hold a relevant Cert III and have NOT receive this increase and back payment and believe you have also been underpaid, speak with your HSU delegate or organiser as soon as possible.
This win was only possible because HSU members at IRT came together and stood strong. It’s never been more important to be a union member!
