Next Tuesday 5 September is Thank You For Working In Aged Care Day, an opportunity to celebrate the contribution that all aged care workers make in improving the lives of older Australians.

Celebrations will continue all week. Look out for text messages from the HSU to advise of events in your workplace!

HSU members started Thank You For Working In Aged Care Day in 2018 to highlight the vital work you’re doing. Since then, it’s grown bigger every year.

We have a lot to celebrate this year. Because of the extraordinary efforts of HSU members working together, the Fair Work Commission has awarded an interim pay increase of 15% to aged care workers in direct care roles. With the addition of the 5.75% increase to award rates from 1 July, this has been the largest boost to pay that many members have ever received – meaning that aged care workers can go on doing the incredibly important work you do.

But our fight is far from over. This year, HSU members are using Thank You Day to call for the full 25% increase to apply to all aged care workers – including cleaning, admin, laundry, lifestyle and maintenance staff. A proper Thank You means recognising the value of everybody’s work in supporting older people.
