Sydney Dental Hospital: HSU members force management to consult over changes

HSU members at Sydney Dental Hospital have forced management back to the table after a successful outcome in the Industrial Relations Commission.

As a result of HSU members taking action at SDH, the issue of workloads and the transportation of trolleys went before the Industrial Relations Commission with HSU member representatives from both Sterilising Technicians and Dental Assistants as well as your HSU Sub Branch President in attendance.

The Commissioner has heard firsthand about the workload issues at SDH. In consultation with all parties, he brokered an agreement that SDH management will undertake proper consultation with the union and staff, unit by unit, about how the transportation of trolleys impacts the workloads of staff. SDH management will provide a consultation schedule to the HSU shortly.

This is a huge win for HSU members at SDH. Management need to listen to their staff, hear their concerns, and participate in genuine consultation.

The Commissioner has also advised the status quo prior to the change should apply until this process is complete. That means that the transportation arrangements immediately prior to the changes in February are to remain in place until the next report back on 7 November 2024.
