On Monday 22 February, Shadow Health Minister Ryan Park and Shadow Minister for Mental Health Tara Moriarty met with HSU members at Bourke Street Health Facility in Goulburn to discuss their concerns around the proposed restructure within Southern NSW Local Health District.
Mr Park has formally notified the Health Minister of members’ concerns arising from the meeting. He stated that meaningful consultation should be undertaken to inform staff about the changes proposed and how they will benefit the delivery of health services within the District.
In his response letter, Minister Hazzard wrote, “I appreciate that a restructure can be unsettling for staff. Ms Bennett has advised that when the new structure was launched, all communication to staff included a commitment that there would be no forced redundancies, and favourable salary maintenance provisions would apply. This reflects the District’s acknowledgement of the long period of uncertainty staff may have experienced.”
The HSU will continue to raise members’ concerns at the highest level and will provide support around workplace change to achieve positive outcomes for all members.
