SCHN: State-wide paediatric service proposal

  • Published January 13, 2023

The HSU has been consulting with NSW Health Pathology and the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network in recent months over the formation of a state-wide paediatric service.

Unfortunately, we were provided with an outline of the proposed changes over the Christmas period when members should be able to relax with family and friends. This gives the HSU membership minimal time to review and provide feedback. You can view the relevant correspondence at the below links:

Members are clear that SCHN should retain its own structure free from NSWHP, however recent documentation has provided the following as potential models:

  • Co-located adult and paediatric pathology services.
  • Single paediatric pathology service model with CHWP integrated into NSWHP

This shows there is a genuine possibility that NSWHP could take over management of your workplace.

This is not the first time this proposal has been floated. In 2015 HSU members fought back strongly against the proposal to integrate CHWP into NSWHP – and won!

We can do so again – but we need every member to be involved in online mass-meetings on Thursday 19 January 2023 to discuss the next steps.

There will be online meetings held at 8:30am, 2pm and 6pm to ensure ease of attendance. You will need to register for your preferred timeslot. The links to register are below:
