Operations assistants at Nepean Hospital took on the district in a fight to claw back their entitlement to Infectious Cleaning Allowance, for the period between February 2018 to June 2022.

Months of meetings and empty promises left HSU members furious at the disrespect shown to them by the district. Despite being on the frontlines of COVID during the underpayment period, the district was unmotivated to resolve the matter in a reasonable timeframe.

Members decided to escalate the dispute to the Industrial Relations Commission, which forced the district to commence genuine negotiations to resolve the matter. Four appearances before the Commission and two months later, the district has finally agreed to paying members for an average of three instances of Infectious Cleaning Allowance per week per full time operations assistant.

This equated to a massive back-payment of $150,000 in total! 

None of this would have been possible without the ongoing advocacy and pressure from delegates and members.
