NSW Health Pathology Hospital Scientists Award Variation Update

Are you a Hospital Scientist or Technical Officer?

There is important information you need to know about the Hospital Scientist Award Variation Case. Come to a state-wide Zoom meeting to hear an important update on this case.

Throughout 2022, your HSU team has worked extensively to fight the changes to the Hospital Scientist (State) Award being proposed by NSW Health Pathology (NSWHP) and the Ministry of Health (the Ministry).

NSWHP and the Ministry did not want to negotiate with Union members on the proposed significant changes that would negatively impact on career progression and the future of the profession.

The HSU submitted extensive submissions and evidence, including nearly 20 witness statements from Union members, to the NSW Industrial Relations Commission (NSW IRC). After reading these the NSWHP and the Ministry backed down from their application.

The HSU agreed to undertake negotiations through an assisted mediation process. This will be facilitated by John Murphy, a former Commissioner of the NSW IRC familiar with the NSW Public Health system and the Hospital Scientist (State) Award. The HSU is in a strong position to fight back against attacks on members’ conditions.

At this stage, the Award variation case will not be heard by the Commission until the mediation process has taken place between the HSU, the Ministry and NSWHP.

The HSU is holding two state-wide Zoom meetings to provide an update on the upcoming negotiations.

This meeting is open to Union members and non-members. This is an opportunity for non-members to understand the importance of being a union member and learn that Hospital Scientists and Technical Officers can only fight off these attacks if we are strong and united. Now is the time for everyone to stand together as Union members.
