NSLHD Allied Health members win on staffing reductions! Work bans withdrawn

Dear Member,

More than 400 NSLHD Allied Health members came together and rallied on October 1 to oppose NSLHD’s proposed staffing cuts.

Since then, members have undertaken several weeks of work bans and met with local politicians. Meanwhile, NSLHD took the HSU to the Industrial Relations Commission.

Today, HSU members notified NSLHD work bans (which have been paused for several weeks) are formally withdrawn across the LHD, except for at Mona Vale Hospital.

The bans have been withdrawn because members have won significant outcomes:

  • Stopping the cuts AND improving Allied Health staffing across the district
  • A written guarantee regarding Allied Health staff cuts which walked back the previous proposals of 6 per cent at locations like Hornsby Hospital
  • Improved award compliance with work beyond contracted hours
  • Saving all temporary contracts who had been provided notice.

Most importantly, the ATF process, which members negotiated, has resulted in more than 230 positions being approved over the past six weeks. These positions, which are crucial to ensure staff and patient safety, are now being filled.

This is an incredible outcome, which was only achieved because HSU members worked together, campaigned in the community and took industrial action!

Every member played a part in this. Even though industrial action is withdrawn, NSLHD knows members will not sit by while staffing is cut! This is important because we must ensure that these cuts are not brought back in the future.

Ongoing Industrial Action at Mona Vale Hospital

Allied Health Members at Mona Vale Hospital continue their industrial action as normal in relation to the ongoing workload issues. Progress has been made with the formation of a working group directly with executives, but more is needed before the work bans can be withdrawn.

If you have any questions, please contact your local organiser or delegate.
