Major Workplace Change at SCC Kildare

Southern Cross Care Kildare has recently notified staff that they intend to change the rostering arrangements of the night shift.

According to an email sent to staff, SCC have decided to “remove one CSE role from night as we are going to have one RN replacing CSE staff”. SCC say that the change is because of the “requirements to have 24/7 RN on duty in SCC homes” as of July 2023.

Your Southern Cross Care Enterprise Agreement has clear provisions requiring consultation with staff about major workplace changes, including changes to regular rosters or hours of work.

Your employer must notify you and your representative of the proposed change and discuss with you the effect of the change and measures to avert the adverse effects of the change.

Immediately following the notice to staff, HSU members met via Zoom to discuss the proposed change and the consultation process. The HSU has written to SCC management and Human Resources, to ensure that all HSU members are represented by the union throughout this important process. We have also requested that SCC provide, in writing, all relevant information about the changes including the nature of the proposed changes, the expected effects of the changes on employees and any other matters likely to affect employees.

Consultation is an important workplace right and members are encouraged to share your views on the change and its impact on you. You also do not have to attend any meeting related to this change by yourself.

All HSU members are encouraged to contact their Organiser, Hyojung Kim at [E-Mail not displayed] if you have any questions or would like to be represented at any meetings with management.

Only HSU members will be supported by the union through the process, so now is the time to encourage your colleagues to join the HSU. We are always stronger when we stand together.

New members can join at www.hsu.asn.au/join or call 1300 478 679.
