ISLHD scabies outbreak – union win as preventative medicine is made available!

Dear Member,

HSU members have scored a major win, with ISLHD now agreeing to roll out preventative medicine for all Wollongong Hospital staff who want it to combat the scabies outbreak!

After reports of frontline staff, including food services assistants and pathology collectors, being told they were not eligible to receive preventative medicine by the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District, HSU members fought hard to advocate for ALL staff to receive it. All staff should have the opportunity to access preventative medicine to limit risk of infection from scabies!

After being contacted by HSU members, ISLHD have now backed down and will be providing preventative medicine to any staff at Wollongong Hospital from the temporary clinic on Level 8.

The HSU notes the preventative medicine is voluntary

The HSU is continuing to advocate to ensure staff at Bulli, Coledale, Shellharbour and Figtree hospitals receive preventative medicine to stop the spread of scabies.

This win shows the importance of joining and being an active member of the HSU!

If you have any concerns regarding the scabies outbreak or the rollout of preventative medicine to staff across ISLHD, please contact HSU organiser Nick Haughain at [E-Mail not displayed].
