HSU Win: Maitland Hospital Security

Union members have forced HNELHD to implement a stand-alone security department staffed with at least two Security Officers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This will be supplemented by a security licensed manager Monday to Friday.
As you know, HNELHD initially wanted to continue to have only 1 Security Officer overnight in the Maitland Hospital. Then, after pressure from the HSU, they proposed 1.5 Security Officers Monday to Friday and 2 on the weekends.
But union members stood strong for 7 months, fighting to improve security arrangements at the New Maitland Hospital. This included a long running legal battle in the NSW Industrial Relations Commission.
For too long members, patients, visitors and other employees were put at risk of serious harm because of skeleton staffing in security. This will no longer be the case!
Members can be more confident that the New Maitland Hospital is a safe place to work. Members should be proud that they stood up, fought back, and achieved a huge win.
If you know someone who hasn’t yet joined the HSU, show them this newsletter and tell them what we can do when we stand together. New members can join at www.hsu.asn.au/join or call 1300 478 679.
