Today I joined HSU delegates, Premier Chris Minns, Treasurer Daniel Mookhey and Health Minister Ryan Park to formally announce 100% salary packaging for all NSW Health workers in HSU awards.
This is an historic moment. It puts an end to over two decades of the government taking part of HSU members’ salary packaging tax savings.
This is your money and it belongs in your pocket.
100% salary packaging is a key feature of the recent pay deal voted up by 80% of HSU members, along with a one-year pay increase of 3.5% and a superannuation increase of 0.5%. Pay, superannuation and salary packaging will all be backdated to the first full pay period on or after the first of July this year.
Politicians thought HSU members couldn’t do this. But we’ve proved them wrong yet again. Thousands of members pushing together have brought the government to the table and forced them to hand back your money.
If you’re not salary packaging right now, it’s time to start. Salary packaging allows for payments such as your rent or mortgage, car repayments etc, to come out of your pay before tax, reducing your taxable income and saving you a considerable amount.
Speak to your salary packaging provider about making these arrangements.
I’m so proud of what HSU members have achieved today. Once again, we’ve proved that we are a union to reckon with.
