HSU members at Charingfield stand up for justice

When members at Charingfield Waverley noticed they hadn’t received the new minimum wage from the first full pay period after 1 July 2023, they decided to take action.

With the assistance of your HSU Organiser, members approached management to raise this concern. Members demanded the backpay amount should be paid outside the usual pay cycle.

The parent company Apollo Care Alliance admitted they had made an error and promised to fix the problem.

Backpay for the above pay period was made to all staff on 4 August, followed by letters confirming the new base rate.

This is a great result and shows the power of member-led action!

Because of the HSU’s historic Work Value Case, driven by members, aged care workers have already seen a significant boost to their pay. However, our fight is not over until we all win a fair increase for all workers.

If you know a workmate who is not a member, tell them to join today. We are stronger when we stand together. New members can join at www.hsu.asn.au/join or call 1300 478 679.
