Published June 2, 2021
Late last night it was confirmed that a person with COVID-19 visited venues in Goulburn, Jervis Bay, Vincentia and Hyams Beach while potentially infectious.
As a result, a number of aged care facilities have now entered lockdown.
I want to assure you that the HSU is here for you during this time. We are always only a phone call away. You can reach our HSU Member Services team on 1300 478 679.
COVID-19 Vaccination
Recently, there has been a lot of media focus on the vaccine rollout to the aged care sector. It’s clear that the Federal Government has failed this rollout. Workers haven’t been able to access the vaccine and the support and information that should have been available to you and your colleagues just hasn’t been there.
The Prime Minister is meeting with state and territories leaders this Friday to discuss aged care vaccinations among other things. While it currently isn’t mandatory for aged care workers to be vaccinated, this is likely this will be discussed as well.
The HSU will be watching carefully and will continue to advocate on behalf of members. While we are supportive of vaccinations, taking a hard-line approach without having information and support in place for workers is the wrong move.
If you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to call the HSU Member Services Division on 1300 478 679 or email [E-Mail not displayed].
If you have workmates who haven’t yet joined, tell them the HSU is about supporting each other. They can join at www.hsu.asn.au/join or call 1300 478 679.
Finally, I want to again acknowledge the incredible work you and your colleagues have done in keeping our elderly safe over the last year and a half. Thank you for your work on the frontline.
