Anglicare cuts to hours: Know your rights
-
Published March 10, 2021
Yesterday HSU representatives met with Anglicare management about the changes happening across many sites. Anglicare explained that there has been a significant reduction in occupancy across the organisation which has triggered this change.
While the HSU appreciates that Anglicare has little control over these types of changes to the organisation, what it does have control over is how this is managed.
The HSU has now seen the letters going to employees who have been asked to cut their hours. These are unclear and imply that you must accept this change to your hours of work.
If Anglicare wishes to change your contracted hours, they must seek your agreement. Anglicare can’t change your hours without your consent.
If you have received one of these letters and have felt pressured to sign – or didn’t know you had the right to refuse – please email [E-Mail not displayed]. This information will be kept confidential.
The HSU has written to Anglicare requesting that these letters be withdrawn and reissued with the facts about your rights. If these aren’t withdrawn, the HSU will escalate the matter through legal channels.
If you know someone who isn’t an HSU member, please send them a copy of this email so they know their rights. New members can join at www.hsu.asn.au/join or call 1300 478 679. Again, if you have any concerns please email [E-Mail not displayed] to register confidentially.
