ADHSU seeks urgent IRC listing re unfair restrictions placed on grads

It’s come to ADHSU delegates’ attention that next grad class, starting on Sunday, have been directed to stay in their hotel accommodation at all times unless they are in class, or for one hour exercise etc. This is a massive restriction on their right to a personal life outside of work.
This direction appears to have no regard for grads’ caring responsibilities. It is also a potential breach of the Award, as the employer is not paying the grads after hours and therefore is not in a position to require them to stay in particular accommodation away from their family.
Remember, the grads are not close or casual contacts – they are merely attending school to become grad paramedics. They should be allowed to go home if they wish, provided they follow the current health orders that cover the rest of us.
NSWA has refused to place a status quo on the issue to allow talks to occur, so ADHSU is seeking an urgent hearing in the IRC where we are hopeful that a fair and reasonable outcome can be reached.
