A Better Deal for Collectors, Rovers and Couriers at Southern IML

Last week, your Union wrote to Southern IML asking them to commence bargaining for an Enterprise Agreement. The proposed agreement will cover Collectors, Rovers and Couriers.
To date, management has not shown a willingness to bargain in good faith with the HSU. It is for this reason that the HSU has decided to pursue a Majority Support Determination to force Southern IML to come to the table.
Workers at Southern IML are some of the worst paid health-workers in the country. The Award Rate of $23.09 does not accommodate for the rising cost of living. This needs to change – and Enterprise Bargaining is how we achieve it.
For instance, a collector working at Laverty Pathology – where the HSU recently negotiated an Enterprise Agreement – gets paid $25.40 (as of 1/7/21). Union Enterprise Agreements provide yearly pay rises which means that workers can keep up with the rising cost of living.
What is a Majority Support Determination?
A Majority Support Determination is an order from the Fair Work Commission (FWC) compelling companies to start bargaining with the union. The FWC will only issue a Majority Support Determination if a majority of workers want to bargain. The HSU needs all workers to sign the Majority Support Determination Petition. Your HSU organiser will be distributing the petition in workplaces. Alternatively, you can sign the Majority Support Determination Petition Online.
If you know someone who isn’t yet a member of the HSU, encourage them to join the Union and sign the petition. We are stronger when we stand together. New members can join at www.hsu.asn.au/join or call 1300 478 679.
